Movie Day

Today was Sam's first movie experience.  The Capital Theater in Arlington has a Mommy/Baby movie every Monday afternoon so we all (Lauren, Sam and I) went today.  We met up with Christina and Nicholas as well - it was really fun.  There were so many moms and babies - it was really remarkable - a whole sub culture that you would never know existed.  The movie was "It's Complicated" it was pretty good and the type of movie you can still figure out what is going on if you need to change a dirty diaper or bounce a baby in the hall for a bit.

Before the movie we went for a long walk around Arlington to take advantage of the great weather (45 degrees and sunny).

Hot Nanny Alert :)

This week Sam got to meet Lauren :)  She arrived around midnight on Saturday and we have been having such a great time.  We have been working on fixing up the guest bedroom and sorting out a bunch of our stuff.  We re-organized - well organized technically ;) - the basement and I just have a few more boxes of stuff to go through and that will be complete.  We also made a trip to Jordan's furniture to fix up the living room so I can get rid of the brown corduroy couch and chair.  They are really eye sores and I cannot wait to see them on the curb on trash pick up day.  We did not see anything we we thrilled about to purchase when we were there, expect for this double chaise that was really comfortable but not that high up on the practical side.  I think we will make a trip to IKEA to see what they have.  I really just don't know what their furniture looks like - their shelves and the like are fine - but worth considering.

Today is our first new mom's class at Isis. It was supposed to start last week but was delayed bcs of the snow.  It snowed a lot yesterday into today, but it is really pretty out.  Lauren is going to drive us to class and then work on some stuff she has.  It has been really wonderful having he here - it is just so nice to have her company and have a helping hand with Sam :)

Lauren is approaching!!! :)

So fantastic news! Lauren is about a day and a half away from us - she is going to be in Phili tonight and will be arriving over the weekend :)

What the Nanny cam would see

I think I have a new name for this blog - at least for the time being. It reminds of all the silly things I do during the day to either entertain Sam or entertain myself like:

Singing to a Meatloaf song during his morning bottle

Drinking 2 or 3 cups of caff. tea (depending on the day) and then moving on to herbal in the afternoon.

Repeatedly moving coffee table few inches in all directions - there is no final resting place.

Lots of baby wipes used and frequent hand washing.

Getting better all the time

So good news - Sam is back on the mend after being very unhappy with his stomach for the past week - mostly acid reflux issues - but not fun at all.

You can tell he is feeling better bcs I can actually put him down today :) I put him in his swing this morning and he just dozed off. This may be normal for most, but a pretty big deal for this guy and for my arms! Hopefully this means he is over the worst of it and we just need to manage things and then test again later if/when he has grown out of the acid reflux. He has also been on his new formula for almost 2 weeks now so I think that is a contributing factor as well :)

8 weeks,1 day and a smile!

So yesterday Sam turned 8 weeks old :) I missed the chance to take photos of him on his official 8 week birthday - but had a chance today. He has been smiling for weeks now, but he is so hard to get one on film. He is probably the most serious baby I have ever encountered so his smiles are few and far between at this point. Geoff says he is like a cat bcs you have to work for his affection ;)

Anyways, here are some photos from today - he looks a little silly bcs I have his hands covered - I am obsessive these days about his hands getting cold - but you get the picture. There is one photo of him in there which he is giving a solid half smile :) Also of mention is that he has a dimple on his left cheek - very cute stuff My Aunt Anne first pointed it out to me when we were at my parents for Christmas - it is a keeper.

Yesterday we visited Geoff's work - it was a big outing for us - and was fun to see his office and meet all his co-workers. It seemed like a really fun environment, everyone is so friendly, I think a perfect fit for Geoff :)

Today I do not have much planned - maybe a walk in the stroller bcs it is sunny (though 35 degrees) out.

Emerging smiles :)

In the past week and change Sam has started to figure out how to smile :) It really is adorable and makes you feel like he kind of enjoys being around here ;) Geoff took the above photo a few days ago when he was watching him - we will try to take some photos of him smiling, but my attempts to date have not been fruitful - I think it is really a 2 person job.

So today I am heading to CVS to pick up a case of his prescription formula. It kind of stinks that he has such a sensitive stomach and needs hypoallergenic formula - but the bonus is that we can now get it for free bcs our pediatrician called in a prescription for us - after having successfully tried it over the past week. The main good news is that he is feeling better. He still has some crying spells, especially between the hours of 6-9pm, but he is at least not in agony any more all day.

Also on the good news front - Geoff got a promotion at work on Monday and Lauren will be arriving in about a week! Geoff's promotion is really wonderful - the fastest anyone has made the transition from inside to outside sales was 18 months and he did it in 6 months!! He is really excited :) On the Lauren front - she is planning to leave within the next few days to drive cross country. She is forecasting it will take her a week or so to get her, so she can take her time and enjoy the sights. It will be so wonderful to have her here! We are so thrilled - it will be so nice to be able to spend some quality time with her and for her to meet and bond with Sam. I think they will get along famously :)

Tomorrow I am planning on bringing Sam to Geoff's work so we all can have lunch together. We have had this planned for a few weeks now, but now it will be extra special in light of his promotion :) I am just hoping Sam's feeding/nap schedule works out for us. Funny, I will need to shower today during his afternoon nap bcs I will not have a chance to tomorrow morning. Kind of funny how it can take a few days of planning to do a relatively simple outing.

Boys will be boys...

Geoff's Mum took me to Mark Morris Group's Mozart dances yesterday afternoon - leaving Geoff to mind Sam. In my absence Geoff taught Sam how to play poker, and immediately won all his money ;)

Extreme Colic - coming to an X game near you

So after my last post we went to the pediatrician for Sam's fussiness and general unhappiness. I was happy that upon our arrival there he cried like he normally does for us so they could get a taste of the real deal ;) After weighing in the Dr. saw him and within minutes said that we should make a trip to Children's hospital ER for imaging. I was happy that she escalated the issue another level just to make sure that there was nothing seriously wrong with him - like a blockage in his intestines or the like. So after spending 4 hours in the ER and a few x rays later the diagnosis came back basically that he may just have a case of "extreme colic". I kid you not, she said extreme and all I could think about was some extreme sporting event ;) So that and a change of formula - to hypoallergenic we were on our way home.

Since changing his formula his has been much better - though with a few crying spells here and there - but way better than before. We are also still giving him his acrid reflux medicine until we get clearance to take him off - which I phoned in today about.

Hopefully he will continue to get better as he get used to the new formula and gets the bad stuff out of his system.
