My Mom bought Sam a box of cookie/biscuit sticks for him to chew on earlier in the week when she was watching him, so we decided to see what he would do with one on Wednesday afternoon. He made a complete slobbery mess of it, but really enjoyed himself :)
Our kids had something similar when they were teething. They were called bikki-pegs and were about the size of a fat French fry - with a hole in one end to thread a ribbon through so you could pin it to the baby. Good thing we didn't ever think about hygiene!
